How the Coronavirus Crisis Will Impact Neymar Transfer to Barcelona and Mbappé to Real Madrid
The press in Spain might finally be coming to the realization that Neymar Jr. will not leave Paris Saint-Germain this summer for FC Barcelona.
After rumors of Neymar preparing for his departure, Mundo Deportivo injected some reality to the conversation by reporting that the coronavirus pandemic “will leave the market penniless to pay Neymar.”
In 2017, PSG paid Neymar’s buyout clause of €222 million and currently, the Brazilian superstar is the third-highest paid player in the world behind Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
If a team wants to sign Neymar, Mundo Deportivo reports that the total deal would cost approximately €400 million when you combine the transfer fee (reported to be €150 million) and wages (Neymar currently earns €31.6 million per year). With football leagues around Europe suspended and teams taking cost-saving measures, it’s hard to imagine any club, including Barcelona, spending that kind of money on one single player.
The same theory should apply to Kylian Mbappé who would fetch an even higher transfer fee and wages for any team that is interested. Real Madrid basically owns the bank and desperately wants Mbappé but even they can’t afford the Frenchman this summer.
PSG’s 50th anniversary is shaping up to be one in which two of the top players in the world will be wearing their colors. I’d say that’s a pretty good birthday gift.

It's hard to talk about transfers right now, we have no idea what's going to happen the next months.
