Fifa announce guidelines for dealing with contracts and transfers
Fifa have released a statement in which football’s governing body have issued recommendations for the handling of player contracts and the transfer window.
The COVID-19 pandemic has placed almost all sports around the globe on hiatus and football is among them, leading to concerns about how it will impact clubs who have players on deals which expire at the end of June.
With no timetable in place for when the game could return, Fifa have confirmed that players should remain with their clubs until the current season is completed.
The transfer window will also understandably be affected by the crisis as it is no longer feasible for it to open and close for its normal summer period.
As a result, they have announced that they will be flexible in terms of when teams can pull off deals, provided they do so after the end of the current 2020/21 campaign and the beginning of the next.
That does now mean that pre-existing agreements, such as the one which will bring Hakim Ziyech from Ajax to Chelsea, will now be delayed until such time as his commitment to his current club comes to an end.
